- Eligibility is based on both the Veteran’s military service history and their financial situation at the time of death.
There are two ways to access this assistance: - Through the Last Post Fund (Before Arrangements)If the Last Post Fund is contacted before funeral arrangements are made, and eligibility is confirmed, they will work directly with the funeral home to cover the costs, based on the Veterans Burial Regulations.
- Through the Veteran’s Estate (After Arrangements)If the Veteran’s family or estate has already made the arrangements, they may submit a reimbursement request to the Last Post Fund within one year of the funeral. The reimbursement will respect the maximum amounts outlined in the Veterans Burial Regulations.
