Special Funeral Expense Benefit Quebec Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity
The Government of Quebec, through the Ministry of Employment and Social Solidarity, offers a Special Funeral Expense Benefit to help cover funeral costs for eligible individuals.
This financial assistance can reach up to $2,500 per deceased person. It applies to:
Adults
Dependent children
Stillborn children
Children housed in rehabilitation centres, intermediate resources, foster families, or under the guardianship of a court-appointed tutor.
Eligible expenses include all standard funeral costs, including body transportation fees for burial in the deceased’s region of origin, within the maximum allowable amount. To qualify, the application must be submitted within 90 days following the funeral services. Any request received after this deadline is automatically rejected.

This benefit can also be granted to a person who was not receiving last-resort financial assistance, depending on their financial status at the time of death. In this case, it is not required for the deceased to have been receiving basic financial aid to qualify.
