Going straight to the essentials does not mean doing things by halves. Your loved one is taken into our care, prepared, identified, entered in the register, and you are accompanied right through to the end of the administrative file. What we remove is the fixed overhead of a funeral home you were never going to use.

With taxes added, the package comes to $2,063.80. When the Quebec Pension Plan death benefit is paid at its maximum amount of $2,500, it covers the package in full and $436.20 remains to the estate. That benefit is never automatic: it requires that the person who died contributed enough to the Plan, and it is taxable in the income of the estate. We apply for it on your behalf, at no charge.

Then this is not the package to choose. The Essential Plus package, at $2,490 plus taxes, carries everything described on this page and adds secure temporary shelter, the care needed for presentation, a private viewing on a draped bed and one hour of private time for up to ten people.
We say this plainly because we see it every week: that is the moment families most often regret not having taken. Almost never the reverse. The decision belongs to the first few days and cannot be taken again afterwards.

What exactly is a direct cremation?
It is taking your loved one into our care, the cremation itself, and the return of the ashes, without a viewing or ceremony beforehand. The word "direct" describes the route, not a lack of care: basic preparation, placing the ashes in the urn, the identification medallion and entry in the register are all part of it.
One thing people often confuse: cremation is a method of disposition of the body, not a ritual. Choosing direct cremation commits you to giving up nothing. A gathering can follow — at home, in the spring, when the family can come.
A death has just occurred. What happens over the next few hours?

Yes. How long is it between the death and the return of the ashes?
Quebec law prohibits cremation before six hours have passed since the death was attested. In practice the timing depends mostly on paperwork: the cremation request and the authorizations must be in order, and a file referred to the coroner follows its own schedule.
We give you a date as soon as the file is complete, and you follow its progress in real time on your secure platform. The urn and the documents are then delivered to your home by our professionals.
Do I have to travel anywhere at any point?
No. Everything is done remotely: the signature, the forms, the follow-up. The urn and the documents are delivered to you.
Identification by photograph is offered at no charge and is also done remotely. It is not mandatory, but we strongly recommend it: cremation is final and this step cannot be taken again.

Is an urn included, and where will the ashes rest?
A biodegradable scattering urn is included and delivered to your home, along with a basic cremation container. If you would rather keep the ashes or place them in a columbarium, a permanent urn is chosen from the store.
Take your time deciding. Keeping the ashes at home seems simple at the moment; the question surfaces later, when someone close would like to pay their respects and does not dare ask to come into your house. A year — one turn of the seasons — often helps.
When is payment due, and can it be spread out?
Payment is made in a single instalment. We do not offer financing: our prices are low because we carry no credit costs, and credit is a bank's business, not ours. Be wary of offers at "$80 a month for five years" — do the multiplication before you sign.
Can a ritual be held after the cremation?
Yes, and it is more common than people assume. Nothing obliges you to fit everything into the 72 hours after a death — which are precisely the hours when people decide worst.
